Audio Tour comes to Devonport Guildhall and Column for Visitors

A new self-guided audio tour was launched on Wednesday at the Devonport Guildhall and Column.

The audio tour, which was created by the Real Ideas Organisation, was designed to allow visitors to learn all about the history of the Guildhall and Column. Working alongside RIO to create the audio tour was The Media Workshop, Plymouth City Museum and local historian Chris Robinson. To provide a fascinating insight into the former uses of the two graded buildings, along with historical information about the local area.

With two elements of the tour, an indoor and an outdoor section, the tour is free for all visitors to access. Each of these tours last 30 minutes, with visitors able to access the tour via their smartphone or tablet. Through the handy QR code that is located on the signage on arrival.

Louise Evans, Devonport Guildhall Manager says an audio tour seemed the perfect way to share the story of the Guildhall. With people visiting the social enterprise hub wanting to know more about their history.

“People often visit here wanting to know more about the history of the Guildhall,” said Louise. “Its surroundings and how Devonport came to have such impressive buildings. An audio tour seemed like the perfect way to share the story of the Guildhall with as many people as possible.

“We’re really excited to launch this new addition to the visitor offer at Devonport Guildhall and Column and hope people will get a feel of the rich history of these two important Plymouth landmarks.”
