2016 Highlights & Recap

Before you can move forward with the New Year, I think it’s always good to look back on the previous year to see your achievements. Looking at it, 2016 has been quite a successful year for me! A lot has happened and I am really proud of myself. I thought I would share with you today my highlights of 2016.

The first couple of months were quiet, it wasn’t until April when my year got excited. I adore Waterstones, ours is good on having different author appearances. I was able to attend a book signing by Darren Shan! How awesome was this, as I have always been a big lover of him! Especially when I was growing up.

Now here comes the really special moment of not only April but 2016. My best friend asked me to marry him! It was such a lovely moment, it will be something I will never forget. He proposed to me at Pride of Longbridge. A car meet that celebrates our cars, outside the main gates, with his car on the podium, he got down on one knee and asked me.

For one of my University modules, we created Sound a magazine for Plymouth, with this being a Summer edition it included a lot of events and fun things to do during the Summer break. This was really fun to create, I loved it especially as we had the opportunity to create our own articles! It felt like a news room, it was the perfect experience for us all.

Alone with the production of Sound, me and Corinne Bygrave from Organic By Nerve put ourselves forward to distribute the magazine. This was an interesting experience as we traveled around Plymouth giving different organisations our magazine. It was nice to be the first people to see the magazine.

For a little while, me and Corinne wanted to do a Podcast series together. As we have the equipment at University, we could do this and in June we produced Work in Progress. Which you can check out HERE. We both loved creating this series and we do miss it, there is talk that we might return to producing this podcast.

On August 13th, I was lucky enough to attend the Britcar Endurance at Silverstone. This was really special to me, as I attended the event as Media. I managed to achieve this off my own back, so I was even more happy with myself. This was something I wanted to put towards my Dissertation next year, you can find out more about my experience HERE.

Towards the end of 2015, we found out that my cousin was expecting. This was a special moment within the family, as it marked the first baby since my younger sister! That’s over fourteen years ago now. On September 6th, Baby Alec was born, he is super adorable and very chatty! It’s amazing watching him grow up, he really is special.

At the end of September, I attended BTCC at Silverstone. I loved this weekend as I brought myself a VIP ticket with Team HARD. I am a massive fan of the team. I was able to meet all three of their drivers, eat amazing food and be on the grid twice before the start of the race! You can read my blog post HERE about the experience.

Heading into October, I received some good news. The work experience placement I applied for I was successful, which meant I was heading to London for a week! This was an amazing feeling as I didn’t think I would get it because of my experience but I did! The week with Teneo Blue Rubicon, I learnt a lot, you can check out my experience HERE.

At the beginning of November I found out that I was accepted on the Theatre Royal Plymouth Blogger Scheme. I was over the moon when I found out, as I was chosen from around 30 other bloggers. Everyone is really friendly, I’ve currently seen two theatre performances with them, you can read HERE what the scheme entails.

The end of the month marked my 21st Birthday, this was a special day as I spent it with all my family and the other half. Receiving everything I wished for along with a special birthday meal. The week after my birthday the other half took me out to dinner at a restaurant I have been looking at for a while. I always love it when we go out together.

December was a very busy month for me. I decided to do Blogmas. With reaching more confidence with my blog, I thought it was the correct time to do it. I am pleased to say it was very successful! I would like to thank everyone who viewed my blog during December, you can catch up HERE with all the posts.

At the beginning of December, I collaborated with some bloggers for the Blogger’s Christmas Beauty Brawl. This was really fun and I loved producing the posts, as well as meeting some amazing bloggers, who I have kept in contact with. The Brawl was a massive success, I’m glad it went as well as it did.

I’ve been working really hard with my blog recently. At the beginning of December, I found out that the lovely Abi Moss nominated me for the Versatile Blogger Award. This is first Award I’ve received for An Ocean Glimmer, so it was a massive proud moment, you can find out more about the award HERE.

At the beginning of the year, I spoke to Autosport about some work experience with them. They don’t have work experience as such, more of a Junior Programme. I sent off everything to them but never received anything back. I just assumed I was unsuccessful, but mid-December I received an email asking if I was still interested.

I was probably the second happiest I have been this year, as this would be my life if I got onto the scheme. I had to attend an Assessment Session, as there was over hundreds of applications. This was a scary moment, as this meeting could probably change my future, now I’ve just got to wait until the New Year.

Across the year, I have attended my fair share of car meets, this is something me and the partner enjoy with both of our cars. It did feel like every other weekend, we were on the road travelling, it’s nice to have a quiet period. But that period isn’t very quiet as it’s the perfect time to change and add things before the new car season.

I have had some good luck in 2016, I’ve been putting my name forward for a lot of competitions recently. I have received an Infinity Necklace from JewelleryBox, three Hand Lotions from Beauty Kitchen, a signed Haas F1 Team cap, Stick to Stigu Notebook and make your own Lip Balms from Beauty Kitchen.

Woow, 2016 surely has been a successful and happy year for me, I really hope this continues into 2017! Let me know in the comments your favourite highlight of the year and what you are looking forward to in 2017.
