March 2017 – World Book Day

When I was in primary school, I could remember all the national days, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Easter, them all, only because school reminded me when they were around the corner. One day that I used to always love was World Book Day because it was packed with fun activities and of course we were allowed to dress up as our favourite book character!

I thought I would take a little trip down memory lane and speak all about this celebration of authors, books, illustrators and of course reading! Tomorrow, Thursday 2 March marks the twentieth celebration of this day. I actually thought it was older than this, I never realised it was something that I had grown up with as I’m twenty-two this year.

The main aim of World Book Day is pretty simple, to encourage children to explore the pleasures of books and reading by providing them with the opportunity to have a book of their own. I loved receiving my Book Token and having the opportunity to pick up my own book, I also loved when my school hall turned into a library with different books all waiting for me to read them.

To celebrate World Book Day 2017, I thought I would share with you my top five book series I have loved reading!

Best Friends by Jacqueline Wilson | Of course this list wouldn’t be complete without a book that I loved growing up. Jacqueline Wilson was bar far my favourite author, Best Friends is my favourite as it reminds me of the friendship between me and one of my childhood friends.

House of Night by P C Cast and Kristin Cast | I can’t remember how I came across this series but when I did, I fell in love! I was soo addicted to the series that I brought all the books together. I can still remember the outline of the story and I do miss it, I think I might go back to this series! Of course, I didn’t like the ending and it was very much disappointing.

Vampire Diaries by L J Smith | Of course, I went through the stage of loving all things fantasy and mythological. I first watched Vampire Diaries on TV and fell in love with it, with it being based upon a book, I just had to read it. This is a series that I’ve yet to finish, as the books were still being published! The TV Show is finishing this year, so I’ll definitely be going back to the books to get my Damon Salvatore fix!

Assassin’s Creed by Oliver Bowden | Since coming across the first Assassin’s Creed game, I have become addicted! Every year I have brought the new game and finished within a week, I loved the series so much that I started reading the novels that went alongside the games. The books are definitely as good as the games!

Zom-B by Darren Shan | So this is a recent series favourite, after meeting Darren Shan at my local Waterstones, I fell in love with this series! I am currently still reading this series and I am loving it, the books are very addicting and it’s amazing series. I love the characters and everything about the story, it’s like nothing I’ve read before.

I hope you have enjoyed this post! It’s strange not to celebrate World Book Day anymore, it was a massive part of my childhood. Let me know in the comments your favourite book and why.
