Blogger Book Nook #7 // Books to Screen

We’re nearly halfway through March, I hope you are all having a great month! Of course, with a new month comes a new Reading Challenge for the Blogger Book Nook. This month is definitely a good one and I’m really excited to get stuck in, this month’s Reading Challenge is Books to Screen. This month is all about reading books that have been made into TV Series/Movie adaptions.

It does feel that every movie is based on something, I think most of the books on my bookcase are also in my film collection. We receive our monthly Reading Challenge from either Abbey or Tabitha, two of the kindest girls, on the Facebook page. Here we have some great conversations and are able to talk books! This is also the perfect opportunity to get to know new bloggers, ones that have a similar interest, books and reading.

Right, let’s get on with March’s Reading Challenge.

Blogmas Day 5 // Christmas Tag

Welcome to Blogmas Day 5, I hope you are all enjoying Blogmas on An Ocean Glimmer so far, can you believe it is only 20 days until Christmas! Where on earth is the time going!? For today’s Blogmas post, I am answering questions from the lovely BloggersTribe as they have created a Christmas tag. I love answering questions from tags, they always get me thinking, so a Christmas tag is just perfect!

I would like to thank Katie from BloggersTribe for letting me know about this tag after struggling to find a new Christmas related tag for Blogmas 2017, as I didn’t want to use the same one as last year. She reached out to me, after asking my followers on Twitter as a Google search came up with nothing. Also another shout out to Bexa from Hello Bexa who created the feature image above! How beautiful is it!?

Enough chit-chat, let’s get started with the Christmas tag created by BloggersTribe!

August 2017 – Book Lovers Day

Since finishing university, I’ve had a lot more time on my hands, for this I’ve managed to read a lot more, one of my favourite hobbies! During my semesters, I would read books after books, but these would be boring books for my assignments. I lost interest in reading for fun as well as just not having enough time. If you’ve been following An Ocean Glimmer for a while, you’ll know that I’ve been taking part in some book blog tours.

These have fueled my reading needs and has shown me just how much I’ve missed reading for pleasure. Which is why I’m currently loving today, because it is Book Lovers Day! There are many different ways you can celebrate Book Lovers Day because we are all different, we need some that will fuel all our needs. You can read some of your favourite books, maybe something from your childhood that you loved or what about a trip to your local library and just sit there for hours and read all kinds of books.

Infinity Crates July 2016

It’s here! July’s Infinity Crates has been shipped and delivered.

Infinity Crates is a United Kingdom based monthly subscription box that offers a new theme every month. There are four different crates on offer, Classic Crate for £16.99 plus p&p, Premium Crate for £23.99 plus p&p, Kids Crate for £16.99 plus p&p and T-Shirt Only Crate for £7.99 plus p&p. Every box is guaranteed a POP! Vinyl figure and a T-shirt.

I was receiving Birchbox on a monthly bases, a beauty orientation subscription box but for the price, I wasn’t gaining anything. The products I received were never something that I used. So I started looking into other subscription boxes. While browsing the web, I came across Infinity Crates, the fact that I would receive a POP! Vinyl figure and a T-Shirt every month, was a massive selling point to me.

Since May, I have been receiving Infinity Crates and I can tell you now it’s definitely worth the £19.99 price tag including delivery. As I said previously, every month is an exclusive theme, for this month it is TV & Movies!

The exclusive POP! Vinyl figure I received this month was Daredevil. After receiving a Winter Soldier from Captain America Civil War and James Gordon from Gotham, I am happy to see a character I actually know. Within each crate you receive a card explaining what you might find. Out of the different characters, I am glad I received Daredevil, Dory from Finding Nemo would have been cute though!

Daredevil Figure

Within the crates you are also guaranteed T-Shirts, this month I received one in the theme of X-Men with the character Magneto. He isn’t one of my favourite characters but it’s still a cool T-Shirt to wear around the house or evening for bed. I don’t think I shall be wearing this T-Shirt as much as the Deadpool tee I received last month. You can never have too many character tees though!

Magneto Tee

I received two cute little note pads, one The Avengers and the other Deadpool. I think these will come in hand for simple notes, neither are lined so I’m kinda screwed there. I am rubbish at keeping things straight without lines. They are both small so they will come in handy if you’re travelling or just to keep in your handbag. I can see me filling both pads up quite quickly.

Deadpool Avengers

July and August are known for their Summer blockbusters, before the Summer has even probably begun, I have my favourite blockbuster! Suicide Squad is coming out next month and I can not wait. I believe it is going to be my favourite movie of the whole year, well maybe after Deadpool. I was pleased to see some stickers for the DC Comics movie within my crate. As this shows just how up to date they are.

Suicide Squad

Along with the bigger items in the crate, they also supply small items. For this month, there were two badges, one for The Walking Dead and the other for Game of Thrones. These are cute as you can just have them hanging from a lanyard or you could put them on a jacket or bag. They are simple badges so you are able to understand where they are from, especially with showing just zombies.

Next is a Millennium Falcon bottle opener from Star Wars, this is not really my cup of tea but it’s something that is pretty cool, as you always need a bottle opener. The best bit though, it is also a keyring. So you can attach it to your keys so you’ve always got a bottle opener when your on the go. It is not an obvious bottle opener so it’s cool to have it just as a keyring to show off your geekiness when it comes to Star Wars.

Finally is something that wasn’t on the description card so I had to do some guess work. It is a fridge magnet for Ghostbusters. I have never watched the film but the no ghost symbol is pretty famous so I understand where it’s from. With the reboot released this year, this is a cool piece to add to the crate. I think I will add this magnet to the collection we have on our fridge.

That’s it for July’s Infinity Crates! If you’ve liked what you’ve seen why not subscribe, it’s a subscription box that I look forward to receiving every month so I hope you would too! You haven’t got long left to subscribe for the August crate so what are you waiting for, head over to their official site HERE for more information.

Free Comic Book Day 2016

Not many of you may have heard of this event but for the last fifteen years, the North American comic book industry has hosted a Free Comic Book Day to help bring new readers into independent comic book stores.

When I was growing up, I was never interested in comic books, to be honest, I didn’t even know they existed! I loved Marvel and DC favorites like X-Men, Batman, Fantastic Four and Spider-Man but never thought about where these stories originally came from. It wasn’t until I got older that I understood where these amazing characters came from, the wonderful universe of comics.

At this point I still wasn’t interested in comics but I loved them for the characters that they brought to television and film. I felt as if because I was so many years behind in the series I wouldn’t fully understand the story as there’s so many different variants and storylines for each character.

I briefly read The Walking Dead comics as I had heard how different they were to the television programme and as I loved the programme I thought I would try out the comics. I read a few but there wasn’t anything there that really tied me to them, nothing that grabbed my attention to make me want to read more.

Before this year, it was a while since I had watched a DC/Marvel film, as there was so many different films I just never had the time to watch them. Especially as they all linked to one another some how. It wasn’t until I saw a trailer for Deadpool that I was like yes, I need to watch that when it comes out, this was the first movie that I felt like this so I just had to find someone to go with.

After speaking to my best friend, who never heard of Deadpool before but fell in love instantly after watching the trailer, we decided that we needed to watch Deadpool. I fell in love with not only Deadpool but the actor who played him Ryan Reynolds. This fueled my love for the character and now I am addicted to anything Deadpool. Which lead me to buy my first comic book!

Since then I have non stop been buying Deadpool comics, trying to read the series from the beginning as I am a very chronological person. I have got Deadpool & The Mercs for Money, Hawkeye vs Deadpool (because why not!), Deadpool’s Secret Secret Wars (Captain America is in there) and finally Deadpool & Cable, only because Deadpool 2 (it’s happening!) is supposedly about Cable.

The last time I was in my local independent comic book shop, Final Frontier Plymouth, he told me about Free Comic Book Day, an event that I didn’t even know existed! After reading up on it, I decided I needed to go and see what free comic books they had to offer. I’m glad I did as there was a wide range of comics for everyone! Even something like Strawberry Shortcake for the little ones.

Flickering through the choices, at first I felt I wouldn’t pick up any comics as there wasn’t anything that took my fancy. After looking behind other comics and waiting a while I came across Assassin’s Creed and Captain America. I grabbed these before anyone else could as the store had a limited supply of each comic. For a free comic they are definitely  worth the non price!

There is a lot more advertising in them but what do you expect from a free comic, there are still the same quality so you don’t need to worry about cheap paper. As I picked them up in my work lunch hour I wasn’t able to fully experience the day. My particular store was putting out different comics at different times so everyone would have a chance at grabbing some.

There were comics for everyone, from family favourites like Pokemon, Pink Panther and SpongeBob SquarePants to blockbuster hits like the Avengers and Suicide Squad. When I’ve previously visited Final Frontier, it’s never been busy! Only one staff member working and it’s a very chilled environment, this day was different though. There were four staff members around to help everyone with their enquiries.

I will definitely be going to Free Comic Book Day 2017! It was a great day but I have learnt that you need to keep your day free so you can keep popping in to check out all the comics. Do some research before to see exactly what comics are being offered so you know what you need to look out for and grab!
